Clonakilty Macra have beeen involved in a project with other local community groups to to highlight the plight of the Asian Elephant. For the past few months club members have been involved in building a life size herd of these wonderful creatures.

The Survival Tour is a creative, high profile conservation initiative involving 15 life-size elephants, 6 prestigious locations, 3 UK charities and a 5 month publicity tour. It seeks to strengthen public commitment to the environment and ultimately raise £5 million for vital wildlife habitat across Asia.

The project comes in the form of a herd of life-sized elephants; the elephants are being made here in Clonakilty by 2 Americans who flew over especially. The guys make the 3 dimensional elephants at a frame level, and there are various community groups involved in painting and adding the cladding material: Clon Macra, Sacred Heart School, Community artists etc. The first location for the tour is Inchydoney Lodge and Spa at the end of May and then the herd will tour Ireland during June.

We would urge everyone to come to West Cork to see this unusual project at Inchydoney Beach or watch out for the herd in your local area during the summer.

A fine cause Geraint, best of luck with it!

Sher it was only a couple of months back we started a campaign as many of you will remember, to save the Blue Sheep species in Ireland..

I am glad to report back that thanks to the great generosity of Macra members on this board we have raised €6950 and helped keep this great species of animal alive.

After several months of the funds "resting" in Rocheys account we have managed to open up a sanctuary and rest centre for the Blue sheep just outside Togher. It was local farmer Patsy Mulcaghy who generously donated the land helped erect the outhouses..

With a little bit of help from Macra members throughout the country hopefuly you too can help this fine animal stay alive Smile
