Just wondering after looking at the web site and the snap shot of the birthday cake, for 65 years at the Macra Stand at ploughing in Athy. Why wasn't our president, out elected leader of Macra Na Ferime not wearing his chain, shirt and tie? It was good enough to wear one behind the Laois IFA banner at the tractor protest for the Farming Indpendent.
I though that at all show case events in the public eye, our president was required to dress appropriately/code while repsenting Macra Na Ferime. The Macra stand is one of our biggest show cases of the year.............
Oh jaus, if he was wearing it the whole time lads would be giving out about him thinking so much of himself to be wearing it everywhere. Think he wears it to official macra events mostly, as in banquets presentations etc. Also at the macra stand it would have been easier to talk to potential members without looking formal and being the only one ther dressed formally.
A person should not be judged on the clothes that they wear... Tom H wore a green blazer, Colm M wore a cord jacket, CAtherine wore what she wanted, why would michael be any different??
In fact, when colm was president, he would wear his sports gear for the sporty competitions - it just shows that the president is a normal human being. Im sure that if you stood on Michael Gowings foot, he would feel it as much as any other person... Simba - Im not sure where you are going with this thread...
A HAPPY Macra member makes a GOOD Macra member (",)
Great thread, Simba, and I am with Best on this. The CHAIN the president of Macra wears has been something I've had a problem with for a long time. I don't think the President should have to wear this, just to stand out from everyone else. The Macra president is a member of the organisation just the same as any other. All macra members are equal, we all pay the 40 Euro affiliation!
He or she (the president) should be their own self, let them be known for their personalities, the work they do for macra, and they don't need a symbol such as a chain to stand out or be reconised!
Simba, we recently had a discussion on this very fact. It is my belief that our President should have been wearing a shirt and tie, at least for the 65th Celebration. How is it that the previous Presidents managed to dress appropriately for the occasion?
I do believe that you have to dress appropriately for the occasion at hand. I will always associate Tom with his green blazer, it always looked well and I had even the pleasure of getting my photo taken in it.
Simba, I agree that the plouging stand is a big showcase, but the president is there for three days, from before 8 in the morning til late in the evening, I couldn't ask any man to wear a shirt and tie for that length of time. Also macra is supposed to be a young persons organisation and if you look at the photo its very easy to see the generational progression. Richard Kennedy, Sean Eustace and Padraig Walshe are all wearing ties and they would be the 3 most senior past presidents. Joe Healy is next and he's sort of half ways between with the jacket but no tie and finally the youngest presidents are more relaxed. Theres nothing like a suit to put people off coming up and talking to you, and our president is supposed to be approachable and no different from any member.
Dont see a whole lot wrong with this Simba or Jenititious. Its not like he is wearing a T shirt saying something like im with stupid. Where would you stop with the dress code, Should he wear a Suit to the likes of Stockjudging competitions, they being National Finals.
defo no need for a suit at a 3 day farm show. i would go as far as saying a macra polo shirt would of been what a 30 year old president should be wearing for a week like that one. (Im no fan of the short sleve shirt)
our president should dress comfortable and for the event he is attending.
i have to say that i prefer the man of the people look, our president is a member one of us and i think that by dressing this way he represents us the members....
