This is an idea that came up in a conversation with Green Grass over a pint in the Aras islands.

We were chatting to some German girls and they told us about a website where people who are travelling from one destination to another post it on a website and if you were going that way too you get in contact with them and they will pick you up (assuming you are going in the same direction of course). The fee is fixed at five euro. I thought this a useful idea and here is an endeaver to transplant it to our country via Macra. I can even begin. Feel free to join in or reply.

Seats: 2
Going From: Drogheda
Going To: Bantry
Going Via: Dublin; Portlaoise; Cork City etc
Leaving at: 2pm or thereabout
Date: Friday 23rd October
"Suggestion": €5 (to be "donated" before we entering vehicle)

Paddy get in touch with the people who are interested and then get in touch with me if they want a seat with myself on the trip to Bantry. You'll get me on: 087-2488792.

I haven't got any poster though. What's it about? And how did you send it to me?

No bother lad.

Profits? If only there were some!

This place seemed like the path of least resistence/effort. If there is a responce it can be taken further!

Portlaoise would probably be quicker. Duely noted Green Grass.

Unless you are a registered taxi or hackney, you cannot charge people for the service. What you can do is suggest a donation - as long as it is not done within the vehicle...

In the case of an accident if you are carrying people that you do not know, you (as an illegal hackney or taxi) are not covered by insurance. If you are offering someone a lift (Not for hire and reward ie getting money for it) then your terms of insurance are covered because they are getting into your car on their own bat. If they choose to give you a donation of €5m, then you can accept - but you cannot say that it is a charge! Does that make sense??

Car pooling is a really good idea. Just remember that it takes one unit of alcohol 1 hour to leave your system. There are 2 units in a pint of alcohol... So if you are car pooling and you are the person driving - please keep this in mind. We have all heard those adds on the radio... Often its the case that he drives, she dies! Not Im not suggesting that we have any dangerous drivers in Macra, but it is important that people are dring aware.... www.drinkaware.ie

You are a mine of information. I can fully understand what you say and it makes perfect sense. Duely noted Lady.

To set potential passangers' minds at ease I'm fully comp and will be sober when driving!

I would imagine that you would always be a safe driver - you have the look of one about you!! I just put down the info cos its better to know this stuff than to find out through an accident! (",)

As you can see I took your advice in the spirit it was given. Smile Of course someone could be the safest driver in the world but there are other people on the road who may not be and even if they were accidents happen.

I actually had the misfortunate of being involved in an accident earlier this year (passanger) but was, thankfully, able to walk away from it. I'm a more cautious on the roads since then I've noticed.

If anyone else knows someone who is driving and has a spare seat they might be interested in cutting down the petrol bill/meeting some fellow members/just another way to enjoy the 2009 rally! Razz

One seat taken and 50% chance of the second one being taken too. Congrats to Paddy Meade on being the first member to take part in Car pool macra. One seat going if anyone would like to hear such discussions as the glorification of intensive farming while meeting a few new folk on way to Rally 09.

Hi all

I shall be leaving Dublin on either Wednesday evening or on the Thursday for Bantry if anybody is looking for a lift.

Will be passing the suburbs of Dublin - N7 then onto the M8 (stopover along the way) and then on to Bantry friday.

This will be a smoking flight, with rest stops in between where possible (depending on traffic if required) and you must BYO food/liquid SmileSmile

Moira is starting a new job in Dublin Monday so being the kind brother that I am I said I'd try and find her a way to bantry as she is without car for a short period.
I believe she also said all the tall men were in Dublin
